Futouris e.V. and the German Travel Association (DRV) are thrilled: The jointly initiated industry project “Climate-conscious travel: Uniform presentation of the climate footprint of travel” has been awarded the German Sustainability Award Products 2026.

The Futouris Industry Project Climate-Conscious Travel

At the heart of the project is the KlimaLink platform, which provides specific emissions data for travel components such as flights, accommodations, and vehicles in the form of carbon footprints. Based on a standardized, ISO-compliant CO₂e calculation, this project, initiated by Futouris and the German Travel Association (DRV), creates transparency regarding the climate impact of travel for the first time. The data enables tour operators and sales partners to visualize the climate impact of travel at the point of sale. This allows customers to make more informed choices, while companies can use the data to reduce the emissions of their products – creating the conditions at all levels for more climate-friendly, sustainable travel options to be offered and booked.

„We are delighted to receive this important award – it confirms that our joint commitment to transparency and climate protection in the tourism industry is on the right track. It's fantastic to see how the concept of climate footprints for travel is now becoming a reality and how many industry players are willing to actively shape real change. With climate-conscious travel and the development of KlimaLink, we as a travel industry have taken a crucial step towards transparency and climate protection, a step that is now being recognized across sectors through this award..“

– Swantje Lehners, Futouris Managing Director Projects and cooperations

This project makes a concrete contribution to the sustainable transformation of the tourism industry and supports companies in measurably achieving their climate goals. The German Sustainability Award for Products recognizes the innovative approach of harmonizing climate protection and the travel experience, and particularly emphasizes the importance of broad industry participation in the project.

Award ceremony

The award ceremony took place during the #DNP25 congress on December 4, 2025, in Düsseldorf. Futouris Managing Director Swantje Lehners, together with board members Ralf Hieke and Ingo Lies, as well as KlimaLink Managing Director Saskia Sanchez, accepted the special award for the industry project “Climate-conscious travel.”

During the event, Swantje Lehners represented Futouris at the masterclass on sustainability in tourism. She participated in the sessions “Transforming Tourism – Shaping Responsibility Together” and “Rethinking Travel – How Sustainable Development Becomes a Shared Task,” demonstrating how Futouris e.V. is driving sustainable change throughout the entire tourism value chain through cooperation rather than competition. Through projects such as “Climate-conscious travel,” standards are set, structures are created, and sustainability is turned from lip service into lived practice.

The German Sustainability Award for Products underscores the importance of joint initiatives for a responsible and sustainable tourism industry.
