SEA CLOUD CRUISES set a positive sign for sustainability in crisis

Hamburg, January 5th, 2021. The „Futourists“ are delighted to welcome a new member: The sailing cruise operator SEA CLOUD CRUISES has joined Futouris e.V., the sustainability initiative of the German-speaking tourism industry, this year.

The global corona pandemic confronted the tourism industry with major challenges last year. It is all the more gratifying that the cruise specialist SEA CLOUD CRUISES likes to strengthen its commitment to sustainable tourism development as an active member of Futouris in the midst of this severe crisis.

The aim of Futouris is – more than ever – to preserve the natural and cultural heritage of our world and to make tourism more sustainable. This challenging time has shown how important a sustainable and fair tourism development is.

Since it was founded in 1979, SEA CLOUD CRUISES has followed the principle of low-impact tourism and offers sustainable sailing trips. With a maximum of 64 to 136 guests on board the windjammer SEA CLOUD, SEA CLOUD II or SEA CLOUD SPIRIT, the shipping company offers a successful model for sustainable cruises on sea. Traditional seamanship is consciously combined with the luxurious charm of classically elegant private yachts. For the guests, this means an extraordinary travel experience and the individual experience that sustainability can be a great gain not a sacrifice. The people in the countries visited shall also benefit from the sea voyages, therefore, SEA CLOUD CRUISES mainly works with local service providers and prefers regional products.

Together with Futouris, SEA CLOUD CRUISES would like to make travel on their ships even more sustainable and get involved in ecological projects for the preservation of marine ecosystems.

“We are already offering our guests sustainable sea voyages today – not only because we sail without the engines as far as possible. We also buy locally and cooperate with small regional companies whenever possible; and we also avoid unnecessary plastic waste. As part of our Futouris membership, we want to go one step further and give something back to nature. The marine ecosystems in which we travel are particularly fragile and directly affected by climate change. For this reason, we would like to particularly support them as part of a joint project.” emphasizes Daniel Schäfer, Managing Director of SEA CLOUD CRUISES.

Prof. Dr. Harald Zeiss, chairman of Futouris, is particularly pleased about the addition to the sustainability initiative in these difficult times: “Last year, the tourism industry was challenged like never before. The effects will be felt for a long time. We are all the more pleased about such positive news at the start of the new year. With SEA CLOUD CRUISES a committed member has joined the Futouris family. Solidarity among each other is more important than ever; only together we can rebuild tourism more sustainably and better. We are therefore very pleased that SEA CLOUD CRUISES is now actively supporting the Futouris initiative in this task.”
