Futouris elects expanded board of directors
Berlin, March 8, 2017. Futouris, the sustainability initiative of the German tourism industry, has expanded its board of directors. On Tuesday, the members of the Association elected Ulrike Braun and Prof. Dr. Harald Zeiss to their Board of Management during their Annual General Meeting. Tina Kirfel left as deputy chairman.
The Futouris Management Board has now repositioned itself: the board of the sustainability initiative now represents the entire range of the tourist industry with representatives from sales, cruise, destinations and the major tour operators. Prof. Dr. Harald Zeiss was elected Vice-Chairman at the Annual General Meeting. “I have been working closely with Futouris for many years and am convinced by the high relevance of this initiative on the road to more sustainability in the German travel industry. With my honorary work, I can now shape this important process even more strongly than before, “says Zeiss about his new position. The university professor teaches tourism management and business administration at the Harz University of Applied Sciences in the areas of sustainability and international tourism. He is also Managing Director of the Institute for Sustainable Tourism. Previously, Prof. Dr. Zeiss was responsible for the sustainability management of TUI Deutschland GmbH.
Another new member of the Management Board is Ulrike Braun. The Head of Sustainability at DER Touristik is also looking forward to the challenge: “The perception of social and ecological responsibility by companies has been a concern for me since I started my career. I am delighted that I can contribute my experiences for Futouris in this area and to make the future of sustainable tourism even more comprehensive.” Before switching to the tourism industry in 2015, Braun headed the CSR department at Swarovski KG.
Hasso von Düring thanked the outgoing Tina Kirfel: “As deputy chairwoman, Tina Kirfel has done a lot for Futouris and has supported us to bring forward the issue of sustainability within the industry. We would like to thank her very much for her commitment.” For the future of the association, he hopes that other tourism companies will be won as Futouris members. The aim is that the solutions for more sustainability in tourism developed in the joint projects should be spread even more widely in the overall sector in order to achieve as much leverage as possible.
